It's
Historic, Morecambe
FOOTBALL
history was made last night when Morecambe, who have just won the
Lancashire Combination championship, became the first non-league club
to win the Lancashire Senior Cup, beating a strong Burnley team 2-1
at Morecambe.
After the
game, which ended in scenes of wild enthusiasm by Morecambe
supporters, who mobbed their players, Harry Potts, the Burnley
manager said, "It was an entertaining Cup tie played in a
sporting manner. Morecambe deserved their success on the night."
Morecambe
took the lead in the 14th minute when inside forward Arnold Timmins
fastened on to a faulty clearance and steered the ball past the
'keeper Rodney Jones.
Six
minutes later Martin Dodson turned a centre into the net. Burnley
complacent in the second half were rudely shaken when Len Kinsella
brought down winger Stuart Holding in the penalty area and Timmins
scored from the spot in the 85th minute.
